Reading Response #1

What is academic writing?

One of the biggest takeaways from reading the article is that academic writing isn’t necessary only one formatted structure that you have to always follow. There are many ways you can tackle different papers and not all have to be formatted the same. The most important factor that must be present in the writing is what you are trying to convey, which can be a message or idea. Finding that certain stage is a long and at times a very difficult process because you never know where your writing will take you. Many factors can appear while writing that will become obstacles. I think many people get caught up on making sure everything is formatted and done correctly, rather than emphasizing their time on whether or not they agree on the ideas being conveyed. A good argument starts initially by making sure you have good evidence that you can be supported and that makes you feel comfortable talking about. I know in the past I’ve done the mistake of tackling an idea that I didn’t fully comprehend. Thus made the writing process very difficult and more often than not I was changing my stance on the subject. Overall the initial writing process will be very hard for everyone, so it’s important to make base drafts that allow you to see your ideas on paper and then allow you to make judgments. It’s completely okay if your first drafts are not what the professor wants as a final result. Once you have your ideas and a solid base then you can begin to constructor arguments and gradually make sure you are also hitting those professor requirements that may be presented to receive the outcome you want.
