I decided to tackle the problem of genetically modifying foods around the US. Everyday new technology is being made and traditional ways of life are being replaced. When it comes down to how we grow our foods we overtime have changed it drastically. In 1994 the first genetically modified foods were approved and since then scientists and farmers have been working together to grow in the agriculture business. Some negatives and positives come from genetically modifying foods. I will first discuss the positives of why farmers grow GMO foods and why consumers prefer it. One of the biggest reasons why overtime people have decided to genetically modified foods is that it creates a much larger surplus, thus more people can be fed and from a business perspective, it’s way better to have more. Also, it can change the outcome of the foods, one can make them larger, ripe, and juicer, or longer preservation. Some of the negatives are that when genetically modifying foods there can be many reactions when eaten. Not only are humans at risk but animals and also our ecosystem. Eating GMO foods can also be dangerous in the long run as we don’t know what to expect. We are exposed much more to cancer and other lethal infections. Also, one risk that has presented itself is the idea of genes crossing. This is called outcrossing when modified genes get crossed with natural food genes. This specifies can affect animals because we don’t know how they will react with these foods and what cons may show up health-wise.
